Under the agreement, Squash will plead guilty to one of two charges in exchange for the other being dropped and the possibility of a reduced sentence.
According to court documents unsealed on Friday, Squash pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm or ammunition. The more serious charge of possessing an automatic weapon has been dismissed.
As reported by revonews.ai, the plea deal also acknowledges that the conviction is a deportable offence, meaning Squash could face automatic removal from the United States, though such proceedings are separate from the criminal case.
The deal stipulates that prosecutors will recommend a reduced sentence for the 'Money Fever' artiste, citing the time and resources saved by his guilty plea. However, sentencing remains at the discretion of the court.
Squash could face up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to US$250,000. He has also agreed to forfeit any firearms or ammunition in his possession.
Among the uncontested facts in the plea agreement is that on 24 February this year, Squash was under surveillance in Miami Beach when he was observed accepting what appeared to be a firearm.
Police later stopped the vehicle he was travelling in and recovered a loaded Glock 19 pistol from the glove compartment. It was also confirmed that Squash entered the US illegally in January 2021 and knowingly possessed the weapon while not being a US citizen.
While his legal troubles deepen, Squash has continued to release new music. Hours before his Friday court appearance, he dropped a video for Status, followed by an animated visual for 'Eyes Open' with CodeLank. On social media, he has promoted his music but has remained silent on his plea deal.
The sentencing date has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, Squash's mother, Mama Shelly, has repeatedly denied claims that her son "snitched" to secure a deal, while his father recently stressed in an interview that Squash is 'a musician, not a gang leader'.
