Travis Scott Accused Of Using A Sample Without Permission

SHARE:

Travis Scott has been accused by Chicago electronic band Pixel Grip of sampling their music without permission on his new compilation Jackboys 2.

The band claim that Scott used a portion of their song "Pursuit" on "Kick Out" without obtaining the proper permissions and called out the rapper on social media.

They wrote on X: "Travis Scott sampled 'pursuit' (without permission) in his new song 'kick out.' I just cant stop thinking about who else extremely famous or powerful in music knows about us and even actively likes our music but refuses to throw us a fucking bone.

"Like I almost understand not clearing a sync from like a random 99cent record from 50 years ago at a thrift store… we are active. and hungry. and spinning the wheels on the ground to trying to make a career out of thin air with only underground support."

The band added: "Even just mentioning our name or putting us on a playlist or posting us to his instagram story or anything could've been a really big moment for us but hey travis, or travis's team if you see this – im flattered. and Im not trying to shake yall down – would love to talk."

The group's drummer Tyler Ommen, also said to CBS: "As soon as I had headphones on, I was like yo, y'all, this is just a sample. This is the song in the background."

Pixel Grip went on to confirm that Scott's producer Sean Momberger had been in touch with them and said that the label would be reaching out to sort out the sample.

Scott himself is yet to comment on the accusations.

At the moment, Jackboys 2 is on course to score a number one debut on the Billboard 200 despite having had a shorter release week than every other album.

On midweek tracking, the compilation project was estimated to sell more than 250,000 equivalent units in its first week on sale.

If tracking holds, that will be a welcome result for Scott given he has been feuding with Pusha T in recent weeks and would outsell the Virginia rapper by more than two to one.
